Durango,
Capital of the State, is located in north central Mexico,
It lies in a fertile valley of the Sierra Madre, 6,197
ft (1,889 m) above sea level and is a beautiful city
where you will find several attractions worthy to be
visited. The Cathedral is an old building worth visiting,
since it took over 80 years to be built. As you continue
your tour of the City, you will find a plaza in downtown,
where the Museum of National History, once a convent,
is located. On the main street you will find one of
the most important architectural treasures of the State:
the "Home of Count Suchil", a magnificent
example of homes in the seventeenth century. From there,
you may continue your tour of the city, enjoying Durango's
distinctive mixture of new and old buildings. However,
if you want to be in contact with nature, you can visit
Guadiana Park, filled with trees and a children recreation
area. Only 6 kilometers (4 miles) on the road to Zacatecas,
you will find San Juan Navocoyan, a bathing resort with
sulfuric hot natural springs.
