Veracruz,
the capitol of the State of Veracruz, is one of the
liveliest truly Mexican cities, with a tropical port
atmosphere. It has long had the reputation of a city
that really likes to party. Maybe it's because some
of the most popular Mexican music originated here -
including La Bamba. Pulsating rhythms of tropical bands
and strolling musicians are everywhere. Even the regional
seafood dishes unique. Especially Red Snapper Veracruz
Style (Huachinango a la Veracruzana). It is also the
home to the biggest Mardi Gras (Carnaval) besides Rio
de Janeiro and New Orleans. Among the best sights to
see are, The city's center (Plaza de las Armas), La
Parroquia Church. The Municipal Palace, the Fortress
of San Juan de Ulua, the Fort of Santiago and the Villa
del Mar beach. It was here where the first Pyramids
of the Olmec Culture were built, but it was also here
where the beginning of the end of this Culture started
and spread throughout Mexico when the Invading Spaniards
landed in Veracruz in 1519 and began their conquest
of Mexico. Veracruz became the port from which all the
gold and silver was shipped to Spain.
